Mastering the Mental Game: Navigating Basketball's Grind through Gratitude

Basketball is mentally exhausting

  • Bad games

  • Coach yelling at you

  • Missed events

It's overwhelming if you allow it to be

Your brain will tell you that you can't push any harder

Day after day

Step after step

Repetition after repetition

Excellence isn't exciting.

It isn't fancy ice tubs

It isn't doing 12hour boot camps

It's doing the same boring shit day in and day out

Small repeatable habits

Brick by brick

You have to take control

Gratitude is your weapon

Preseason with the Jackjumpers started last week

It's relentless

Sharp focus and toughness are needed to survive

So what did we do on day one?

We picked apples with R&R Smith

We packed boxes with SRT Logistics

We prepared protein with Bulk Nutrients

We went to work

This is to build gratitude

Gratitude = Resilience

Resilience gets you through seasons

Here are 3 ways you can beat the grind with gratitude.

1 - Get your hands messy

Perspective is everything

Do something more difficult than your current schedule

My dad laid bricks his whole life

Hands stronger than iron

I never complain about the difficulties of my job around him

2 - Start and finish your day the right way

Your last 5 minutes awake dictate your dreams

Your first 5 minutes awake dictate your day

Write 3 things you're grateful for

Morning and night

Non-negotiable

This helps your subconscious mind seek out gratitude 24/7

3 - Practice kindness

Kindness and gratitude create the same chemical reaction in the brain

They are family

Go out of your way to help someone

Lift up a teammate

Help out a friend

When I head into training defeated and down

I pick myself up by supporting those around me

Gratitude gives you energy

Gratitude creates resilience

Both are in high demand playing professional sport

"You won't be great without gratitude"
