You are your own worst enemy.
It isn’t the coach.
It isn’t the big evil business.
It isn’t a government conspiracy.
It’s you.
That’s what makes the story sad.
Self-beliefs = Limitations
If you don’t believe you are capable of achieving your goals.
You won’t.
It happened to me for years.
I can’t study while I play, I don’t have time.
I can’t start up a side hustle, it will affect my basketball.
I don’t have time for a relationship, ball is life.
None of this was true.
But I believed it, so it shaped my reality.
But a good friend and a man I look up to showed me that I was lying to myself.
Jarred Bairstow.
He is a full-time professional basketball player.
Who also:
Is a full-time medical engineer.
Grows his own veggies.
Does landscaping projects.
Has a healthy relationship with his wife.
Has 2 dogs.
All while being an excellent friend.
When I asked him what his secret was, he replied with a simple message I’ll never forget:
“I just do it.”
He didn’t talk about his fancy protein shakes.
Expensive supplements.
Hour-long nighttime and morning routines.
The message is simple.
He just gets shit done.
I was lying to myself.
Telling myself I couldn’t do anything other than basketball.
I started studying.
I started writing and creating content.
I created a beautiful relationship and am getting married in June this year.
All of it improved my basketball.
The only person holding me back was me.
JB showed me the truth.
He changed my AWARENESS.
I understand some obstacles in your life may feel unbreakable.
You may not be able to break them today.
But with relentless effort and self-belief.
You can chip them down day after day after day.
No more excuses.
No more self-doubt.
Only ACCOUNTABILITY and ACTION.
